Hello my friends!
Sorry I have not been able to keep up with my email during this super crazy time of the semester!
I just wanted to start this post as a way of gathering who is going to be attending Democracy Spring / Democracy Awakening and when. This post can serve as a central location so we can easily see who we can meet up with and when!
I will be definitely be there Thursday April 14th and possibly Friday the 15th and into the weekend. I teach a gardening club at an elementary school Friday afternoons so i just need to see if i can get someone to cover my class the 15th.
Allie Cook will drive down with me on the early morning on the 14th and i believe she will be staying through the weekend even if i have to head back to PA on the 15th.
I know Frankie, Lisbet and Cynthia all sent emails out saying they would be attending as well!
Feel free to comment on this post about when you will be attending.
Shout out to Teddy and Ben on there awesome accomplishments so far! You guys are great!

Frankie's commitments' progress
HI all,
Thank you so much, Beth, for getting us started. I am really impressed by your commitments.
Mine included 3:
1. Reaching out to the Food Movement to draw it into action on Democracy Spring/Awakening. So far, I'm in touch with Anim Steele at the Real Food Challenge. We hope to talk about it today. I also reached out to Food Democracy Now! and will follow up asap.
2. I promised that I'd nudge the Democracy Spring leaders Kai Newkirk and Curt Reis to make clearer on the first page of the website that this is NOT an "event" (one-off sort) but a spark in creating a powerful, ongoing movement. (I also suggested a change in wording to clarify that the money-in-politics crisis did not start with Citizens United.) I was thrilled that they liked my suggestions and said they'd act immediately. I also shared with them how positive folks in the Thrill of Democracy "Rowe crew" are about Democracy Spring.
3. Creating a Talking Points/Fact Sheet on Money in Politics. I realized during our weekend that a quick-and-dirty cheat sheet on a/ the scope of the problem b/ its worst consequences and c/ key, proven solutions that have very wide public support would help us all a lot. My team will begin soon to pull that together.
In related news, we are a lot of positive feedback to our Field Guide to Money-Out-of-Politics. It is still in "beta" form and we would love your critique/suggestions.
I'll find our signed commitment and make sure it is in this blog. Does anyone have ideas for what else we might do with it? Once there are "democracy circles" popping up around the country, we might offer it as a suggestion for others, as it gives a group focus and solidarity. What do you think?

Our Personal Commitments
Hello Rowe Friends,
I hope you all had safe travels home! It was such a pleasure to spend time, share ideas and make new friends this past weekend. I was hoping we could use our first blog to share the personal commitments we made that will contribute to our democracy goals. My commitments are as follows.
1) Attempt to provide information about removing corporate money from politics and give information about Democracy Spring and Democracy Awakening during my classes two week voter registration on the Ursinus campus.
2) Meet with as many local political representatives as possible and have a discussion with them about the removal of corporate money in politics and try to convince them to advocate for the removal of the corporate influence. I also want to discuss with them strategies and policies that they would plan to enact if elected and talk about how this would empower or dis-empower the people and how their policies would or would not advocate for human dignity. The individuals I plan to meet with include Lindy Li (Democrat running in PA's 6th district U.S. Congress), Mike Parrish (Democrat running in PA's 6th district U.S. Congress), Ryan Costello (Republican incumbent running for re-election in PA's 6th district U.S. Congress), and Republican incumbent PA state representative Warren Kampf. I also plan to try and meet with, and if not contact, each candidate which is running for senate in PA, which includes Democrat Katie McGinty, Democrat Joe Sestak, Democrat John Fetterman, and Republican incumbent Pat Toomey.
3) I will also set up meetings with various Ursinus student groups. I plan to meet with the Ursinus College Democrats, Feminists in Action and the Ursinus College Young Republicans. During these meetings I hope to provide information about the influence corporate money has in politics, provide information about Democracy Spring and Democracy Awakening and try to influence these groups to become active participants in our democracy while encouraging other students on campus to be actively involved in our democracy.
As I think of more goals and commitments I will update you all! I hope this looks good and I can't wait to hear about all of your commitments!
